Before I headed out to good 'ole Nihon, I stopped by LA (aka Smog Town) for a few days to visit my old lady, Crystal, for our year anniversary. It was a very sweet, and a very cheap trip. My company flew me out. Her company flew her out, paid for the hotels and rental car. All we had to pay for was food and gas :) hooray for consulting!
My flight to Smog Town was pretty fun -- the layover at Denver was delayed a few hours, so I went over to the bar and proceeded to drink a few beers. At this point, I did not yet have access to the red carpet club, so I had to drink with the lowly commoners. Rubbish.
Much confusion ensued as it was time to board my plane -- the flight was cancelled, then it was moved to a different gate, then they replaced the airplane (the "new" plane was a 757 that was built in the copper age) with a smaller one, so some of the passengers had to give up their seats. Not me, though. There were lines everywhere and I couldn't tell what was going on. I just kept moving closer to the airplane until I eventually got on it.
By the time I sat down on the plane, I was losing my buzz, which was kind of disappointing -- the ladies sitting next to me were...ahem....a bit on the larger side, so I found myself clinging to the seat with only one half of my buttocks -- while the other side was getting rammed by the beverage cart. Needless to say, I felt it necessary to procure another brew.
Once I got over the ass-related discomfort, it was a great flight -- there was lots of turbulence, so it was very much like a roller-coaster, and the fat ladies I was flying with were pretty hilarious and fun to sit next to. Good times were had by all.
Once I got off the plane in Smog town, Crystal came around to pick me up -- she didn't know her way around the city, so she brought one of her cronies to help her navigate -- once we dropped him off at his rental car we left Smog Town in the Dust (smog?) and headed to San Diego.
San Diego is much nicer than Smog Town -- you can breathe the air without choking on it...you can see the sand through the trash on the beach, and best of all, they have a sweet zoo.
It was really nice to get to see Crystal again – it is pretty much a bummer to be so far away all the time – super lame. We spent most of our time strolling the beach and / or looking for things to eat -- Crystal took my sushi virginity (not as great is it is cracked up to be). We went to the San Diego Zoo, which was a jolly good times as well. That Zebra ain't got nothin' on me!
Unfortunately, however, all good things come to an end, and soon enough it was time to head out to Nihon. We headed back to Smog Town Sunday evening, ate some delicious Indonesian food, slept there, then it was time to head out to Nihon.
BOO / HOORAY!

Neat website. Looks like your visit with Crystal was wonderful. Sweet photos. That zebra is really special. How can I make that photo a screensaver?
Right click: save picture as...
If you save it in "My pictures" which should be under "my documents," I think there is an option to scroll thru the pics in your "my pictures" folder in the screen saver thingie...
that is, right click on your desktop, properties, screensaver tab, "my pictures slideshow"
If you don't have anything in there, you will get an incredibly lame slideshow...
